At the beginning of the month, I will post three books that I recommend to read. As it is January, I feel that it will beneficial to read inspiring, motivational books to accompany our new year's resolutions.

I would love to hear your recommendations!
Top Pick!
Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
Published in 1970, this short, contemporary fable is available on Amazon.co.uk for £1.99 on Kindle or £7.99 in paperback edition. Although the paperback edition is slightly pricey for this short story (144 pages) it really is a timeless story that can be passed on for generations. I believe this is a perfect book to start the year off. It can be read in one afternoon and will inspire you to aim for your goals. Suitable for all ages, this book focuses on one character, a seagull called 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'. He aims for perfection and surpasses all of his fellow gulls causing him to be banished from the group. This however doesn't stop him... but you'll have to read the book to find out what happens...
This book is truly a motivational, heart warming book that lingers in your mind and can be applied to everyday life. I never tire of re-reading this book and it cheers me up and propels me to achieve something larger than the day to day.
Second Pick - What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami
If you're a Murakami fan like I am then this book especially, is for you. Available from Amazon.co.uk at £5.49 on Kindle and £6.99 in paperback edition. This book is a very inspirational memoir about his journey to fitness.
If you are taking up running as a new year's resolution then this book is a must!
Murakami narrates us through his challenges, trials and tribulations on his path to success. He tells us how his running has influenced his writing and how he continuously accomplished and surpassed personal goals. This memoir makes me want to achieve more and challenge myself. It teaches you to accept and overcome fear and pain as an inevitability of our lives. I am not a runner, yet I still enjoyed this book and it was great to learn more about one of my favourite Authors. Murakami's passion and desire for achievement spreads when you read this memoir and I feel it would be a beneficial read for the new year.
Third Pick - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - by Lewis Carroll
My final pick of the month is a classic children's novel., available from Amazon.co.uk at £3.79 on kindle and £3.99 in paperback edition. Carroll leads us into a fantasy world of dreams and non-reality that takes us away from the pressures of everyday life. This is what the act of reading does for us - it lets us escape from our tasks and chores for a short while. If you don't read much, or struggle to get into a book, then I recommend reading children's books. This is nothing to be ashamed of. Whenever I have a lot of challenges in life and struggle to read, I choose a children's book to trigger my love of books again. Also many of the classics are children's books and there is certainly no shame in widening you knowledge of classic literature no matter who the books were written for.
Good luck and let me know what you think!
Love Charlie, Xx
